Ernie Els - (South Africa) Omega European Masters Crans-sur-Sierre - Crans Montana - Switzerland - 4th to 7th September, 2003 Ernie Els shot a final round 65 for a six-stroke victory in the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland. Ernie Els had accumulated at that stage 430.10 World Ranking points in 2003 and more than any other golfer in the world. He narrowed the gap between himself and World No.1 Tiger Woods to 6.77 points. Ernie Els World Ranking victories this year include the Mercedes Championships (54 first place points), The Sony Open in Hawaii (58), The Heineken Classic (30), The Johnnie Walker Classic (44), The Barclays Scottish Open (50) and this weeks Omega European Masters (30). Runner-up Michael Campbell continued his good form since returning to the European Tour and became World No.44.

Retief Goosen (South Africa) Trophee Lancome Saint-Nom-La-Breteche - Paris - France - 11th to 14th September, 2003 South African golfer Retief Goosen, won the 34th and final Trophee Lancome at the Saint-Nom-La-Breteche Golf Club, Paris, in France. Retief Goosen moved up 2 positions to World No.10 and maintained his position as the second-highest ranked South African on the Official World Golf Ranking after Ernie Els at World No.2. Local favourite Raphael Jacquelin continued his good 2003 season with a tied four finish.

K.J. Choi - (South Korean) Linde German Masters Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof - Cologne - Germany - 18th to 21st September, 2003 K J Choi became the first Korean golfer to win on the European Tour when he won the Linde German Masters at the Gut Larchenhof Golf Club in Cologne, Germany. K.J. Choi, who won twice on the US PGA Tour last season, improved 21 positions to become World No.16. Runner-up Miguel Angel Jimenez returns to the World Top 200 at No. 118. Ian Poulter in thrid place meant that he improved 7 places and into the World Top 50 at No.48. Niclas Fasth remained just outside the World Top 50 at No.51 despite finishing tied third in Germany.

Lee Westwood - (England) Dunhill Links championship Old Course - St. Andrews - Carnoustie & Kingsbarns - Scotland - 25th to 28th September, 2003 Lee Westwood continued his golfing renaissance when won the Dunhill Links Championship in front of record crowds over the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. The former World No.4 improved his World Ranking position by 50 places to become No.61 and jumped past Nick Faldo to become the fourth highest-ranked Englishman in the world after Paul Casey (No.31), Justin Rose (No.43) and Ian Poulter (No.47). Lee Westwood went three years without individual honours but has now won twice in 5 weeks. He has improved his World Ranking position by 121 places this year, moving to fourth in the Volvo Order of Merit with €1,271,619 and is now top of both the European Ryder Cup Points List and the European World Ryder Cup Points List.

Shaun improved 123 positions to World No.46 in the World Golf Ranking. Chad Campbell was the outright runner-up and Chad became the new World No.26.

Jim Furyk - (USA) U.S. Open Championship Olympia Fields - Matteson - Illinois - USA -12th to 15th June, 2003 Jim Furyk fired a final-round 72 to win the 103rd US Open Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club in Matteson, Illinois. Furyk climbed four positions to a career-high World No.6 while runner-up Stephen Leaney improved 32 places to No.23. Kenny Perry and Mike Weir both finished in third position. Kenny Perry, coming off back-to-back wins, moved to No.10 for the first time while Masters Champion Mike Weir jumps past Vijay Singh and Davis Love III to his highest position of his career at No.3.

Soren Kjeldsen improved 53 places to No.111. Alastair Forsyth moved up jumped 39 places to No.146 due to achieving his runner-up finish.

Mike Weir - (Canada) Masters Tournament Augusta National - Augusta - Georgia - USA - 10th to 13th April, 2003 In the first Major Championship of 2003, Mike Weir became the first Canadian and the first left-handed golfer ever to win the US Masters at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. He overcame a three-shot deficit on the back nine on the Sunday and beat Len Mattiace at the first extra play-off hole. As a result the new 67th US Masters Champion moved up 5 positions on the World Golf Ranking to No.5. This is his highest ever career position and the highest position ever held by a Canadian golfer on the World Ranking. Weir started 2003 at No.46 but his victories in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, the Nissan Open and the US Masters meant an accumulation of 260.03 World Ranking points – more than any other golfer in the world.

Kennie Ferrie - (England) Canarias Open de Espana Golf Costa Adeje - Tenerife - Spain - 24th to 27th April, 2003 Englands Kenneth Ferrie became the seventh first-time winner on the 2003 European Tour International Schedule as he birdied the second play-off hole to win the Canarias Open de Espana. Ferrie edged out Swedens Peter Hedblom and Irelands Peter Lawrie. Kenneth Ferrie improved 208 positions on the World Ranking to No. 203.

They were Ricardo Gonzalez from Argentina, Jose Manuel Lara from Spain, and Colin Montgomerie from Scotland.

Paul Casey - (England) Benson and Hedges International Open The Belfry - Sutton Coldfield - England - 8th to 11th May, 2003 In the first English event of the 2003 European Tour International Schedule, Paul Casey won the Benson and Hedges International Open at The De Vere Belfry to move into the World Top 50 for the first time in his career. As a result of this win Paul Casey enjoyed an improvement of 30 places and moving to World No.39: He now qualifies for the World Golf Championship NEC Invitational at the Firestone Country Club in August and placed himself firmly in the frame for the World Top 50 US Open qualification on May 25th. Paul Casey also became the top Englishman on the World Ranking as he moved past World No.42 Justin Rose. Runner-up Padraig Harrington moved up one position to World No.9 while Paul Lawrie returned to the World Top 50 at No.44.

Ignacio Garrido - (Spain) Volvo PGA Championship Wentworth - Virginia Water - Surrey - England - 22nd to 25th May, 2003 In the flagship event of the 2003 European Tour International Schedule, Spanish golfer Ignacio Garrido beat Trevor Immelman at the first extra play-off hole to win the Volvo PGA Championship at The Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey. Ignacio improved 167 positions and is the new World No.62 and now the second highest ranked Spanish golfer in world and the 13th highest ranked European golfer on the World Ranking. Runner-up Trevor Immelman improved 23 spots to his highest career Ranking position of No.38 while third-placed Mathias Gronberg breaks into the Top 100 at No. 74. The World No.2 Ernie Els finished in outright fourth position and consolidates his position as one of the top-two golfers in the world.

Ian Poulter - (England) Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open Celtic Manor - City of Newport - Wales - 29th to 1st June, 2003 Ian Poulter recorded his fourth career victory as he birdied the final hole to win the Celtic Manor Wales Open at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales. Ian Poulter improved 30 places that week in the World Golf Ranking and become the 4th highest ranked Englishman in the world at No.90. Robert-Jan Derksen - (Holland) Dubai Desert Classic Emirates - Dubai - United Arab Emirates - 6th to 9th March, 2003 Robert Jan-Derksen fired a spectacular 7-under-par Sunday 65 to win the challenge of the reigning Open Champion and World No.2 Ernie Els at the Dubai Desert Classic. The 29-year-old Dutchman who graduated from the European Tour qualifying school in November becomes the fifth first-time winner on the 2003 European Tour Schedule and moved temporary to sixth on the Volvo Order of Merit. Derksen, who started that week at No.593 in the world now enjoys a 381-place improvement as he moved to No. 212.

Robert Karlsson - (Sweden) Omega European Masters Crans-sur-Sierre - Crans Montana - Switzerland - 5th to 8th September Swedens Robert Karlsson won the Omega European Masters by four strokes on the European Tour in Switzerland. He defeated his nearest rivals Trevor Immelman from South Africa and Paul Lawrie from Scotland. Robert Karlsson victory over Trevor Immelman and Paul Lawrie meant that he moved up 51 places in the World Ranking to Nº 64. Trevor Immelman moved up to just outside the Top 100 at No.102 and this was his highest career World Ranking position. Paul Lawrie advanced nine places to Nº 48.

Stephen Leaney - (Australia) Linde German Masters Golf Club Gut Larchenhof - Cologne - Germany - 12th to 15th September, 2002 By just the one stroke Australian Stephen Leaney took the win from Alex Cejka from Germany at the German Masters in Cologne on the Tour. Behind him was a group of three players, Paul Casey, Nick Dougherty and Ian Woosman. Stephen Leaney took home the largest cheque of his professional career and a 5-year Tour exemption to Nº 110. He moved up 68 places to World Nº 61. Alex Cejka moved up 48 places to Nº 110. This was a landmark week for all the T-3 finishers; Ian Woosnam returned to the Top 100 at Nº 88, Paul Casey reached his career highest World Ranking of Nº 79, and Nick Dougherty entered the World Top 150 at Nº 132.

Tiger Woods - (USA) WGC - American Express Championship Mount Juliet - Thomastown - Co. Kilkenny - Ireland - 19th to 22nd September, 2003 Tiger Woods won the American Express Championships in Ireland by just one stroke from South African Retief Goosen. with Vijay Singh from Fiji a further two stokes back. After the third of this years World Golf Championship events, Tiger Woods extended his lead at the summit of the World Rankings to 8.89 points as he shot a 25-under par total of 263 at the Mount Juliet Club in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. Tiger Woods collection of 34 PGA Tour titles now includes two American Express Championships, a hat-trick of NEC Invitational titles and the 2000 WGC - EMC World Cup that he won with David Duval – the present World No.12. Retief Goosen replaced Sergio Garcia at World Nº 4 as he equaled the new course record of 62 and finished as runner-up. Vijay Singh finished in 3rd place to taking World Nº 8 spot and moved Padraig Harrington to World Nº 9.

Steen Tinning moved up 110 positions on the World Ranking that week and shared the 132nd spot with Taichi Teshima of Japan. Tinning has improved 128 places in total this year and is now the 4th highest ranked Dane on the World Ranking after Thomas Bjorn (No.36), Anders Hansen (No.68) and Soren Hansen (No.90).

Ian Poulters second Italian Open victory in three years moved him up 32 places from No.112 to No.80. Ian Poulter now became the third-highest ranked Englishman on the World Ranking behind 22-year old Justin Rose (No.43) and 6-time Major winner Nick Faldo (No.62). Rich Beem - (USA) US PGA Championship Hazeltine National - Chaska - Minnesota - USA - 15th to 18th August, 2002 The top seven golfers at the end of play at the US PGA Championship were all home grown. Rich Beem claimed the victory with a one stroke advantage over Tiger Woods. The rest of the field were Chris Riley, Fred Funk, Justin Leonard, Rocco Mediate and Mark Calcavecchia.

Adam Scott - (Australia) Diageo Scottish PGA Championship Gleneagles - Perthshire - Scotland - 22nd to 25th August, 2002 Holding an extremely healthy ten stroke lead Adam Scott from Australia claimed the victory at the Scottish PGA Championship at Gleneagles. His nearest rivals were home grown Scots, Raymond Russell and Sam Torrrance.

Thomas Bjorn - (Denmark) BMW International Open Golfclub München Eichenried - Munich - Germany - 29th to 1st September, 2002 In the beginning of September Thomas Bjorn proudly captured his 2nd BMW International Open title in 3 years. He completed a 4-stroke victory at Golfclub Munchen Nord-Eichenried and moved up 2 places to World Nº 36. Bernhard Langer and John Bickerton finished equal runner-ups and they moved to World Nº 25 and World Nº 124 respectively.

Malcolm Mackensie - (England) Novotel Perrier Open de France Le Golf National - Paris - France - 2nd to 5th May, 2002 On the European Tour the Englishman Malcolm Mackenzie won the Novotel Perrier Open de France by one stroke from Trevor Immelman from South Africa. Malcolm Mackensie became No.206 in the world. Trevor Immelman who finished in second place moved up 32 positions to No.147.

Angel Cabrera . (Argentina) Benson and Hedges International Open The Belfry - Sutton Coldfield - England - 9th to 12th May, 2002 Angel Cabrera claimed his second victory on the European Tour when he won the Benson and Hedges International Open at the De Vere Belfry. Angel Cabrera moved up 12 places to No.12 and the highest world ranking position of his career. Barry Lane finished in 2nd place and moved up 84 places to be just outside the Top 100 at No.106. Three players tied in 3rd position and as a result Padraig Harrington moved up one places to No.9, Colin Montgomerie moved up 3 places to No.29 and the New Zealander Michael Campbell moved up 3 to No.23.

Tiger Woods - (USA) Deutsche Bank - SAP Open TPC of Europe Golf Club St Leon-Rot - Heidelberg - Germany - 17th to 20th May, 2002 Tiger Woods then won the Deutsche Bank – SAP Open TPC of Europe on the European Tour and remained at World No.1. Tiger Woods had to play Colin Montgomerie in a playoff and Colin as the runner-up moved back up to No.21 after an 8-place improvement. Justin Rose moved up 19 places to No.62.

Anders Hansen - (Denmark) Volvo PGA Championship Wentworth Club - Virginia Water - Surrey - England - 23rd to 26th May, 2002 Anders Hansen from Denmark secured his maiden European Tour victory by winning the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth and moving up 90 positions to No.51. Eduardo Romero and Colin Montgomerie finished as the runners-up and as a result Eduardo moved up 51 places to No.57 and Colin moved back into the World Top-20 at No.17.

Ernie Els - (South Africa) Dubai Desert Classic Emirates - Dubai - United Arab Emirates - 7th to 10th March, 2002 The European Tour moved to Dubai where Ernie Els continued his winning ways by capturing the Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club. This victory is Ernie Elss 3rd consecutive 72-hole stroke play win following his triumphs in the Heineken Classic at Royal Melbourne Golf Club and his win the previous week in the Genuity Championship. Ernie remained at World No.3 but only less than half a point behind Phil Mickelson. Niclas Fasth finished as runner-up in Dubai and the Swedish Ryder Cup rookie moved up 9 places to Number 30 in the world.

Adam moved up 12 places in the World Ranking to No. 50 and earned himself a place at the Players Championship.

Tiger Woods - (USA) Masters Tournament Augusta National - Augusta - Georgia - USA - 11th to 14th April, 2002 Tiger Woods became the youngest player in history to win 7 Major Championships after he won the US Masters at Augusta for the third time in his career. Tiger Woodss victory means that he extends his lead over Phil Mickelson to 6.27 points. Retief Goosen finished in the runner-up spot and remained at No.4. Two-time Masters champion Jose-Maria Olazabal finished in 4th position and moved up 6 spots from No.20 to No.14. Padraig Harrington finished 5th and moved up 3 places into No.9. The final 3 two-balls of The Masters possessed 6 of the World’s Top-7 golfers – only David Duval was missing!

Justin Rose - (England) Dunhill Championship Houghton - Johannesburg - South Africa - 17th to 20th January, 2002 The Dunhill Championship at Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg was won by Justin Rose by playing a final round of 65. Rose advanced to Nº 106 in the Rankings. Three players tied as the runner-ups. Retief Goosen continued his good start to 2002 when he moved up one place to World Nº 9 and his fellow countryman Martin Maritz with Englands Mark Foster both moved into the World Top 200 for the first time in their careers. Maritz became No. 193 and Foster moved up to No.197.

Retief Goosen - (South Africa) Johnnie Walker Classic Lake Karrinyup - Perth - Australia - 24th to 27th January, 2002 Retief Goosen completed his 8th and most impressive European Tour victory when he destroyed an outstanding field to win the Johnnie Walker Classic at Lake Karrinyup Country Club in Perth, Western Australia. Retief Goosens third round of 63 opened up a record-breaking 13 shot lead and the 73 on the Sunday means that Retief Goosen now moved up two places to Nº 7. A brilliant final round 66 by the Swedish Ryder Cup player Pierre Fulke gave him the outright 2nd position and a welcome return to the Top 50 players in the World. Pierre Fulke moved up 16 places from Nº 57 to Nº 41. Sergio Garcia finished in 3rd position but remained at Nº 4 with the South-African Ernie Els remaining at World No.5 after his 4th place finish.

Kevin Sutherland - (USA) WGC - Accenture Match Play La Costa - Carlsbad - California - USA - 20th to 24th February, 2002 At the La Costa Resort and Spa in California, the No.62 seed Kevin Sutherland won the World Golf Championship Accenture Match Play to secure the $1 million first place prize and his first PGA Tour victory. Kevin Sutherland moved up 33 places to World No. 32 and also moved to No.2 in the US money list. Scott McCarron finished in the runner-up position and Scott moved up 12 spots to No.21. Brad Faxon needed 19 holes to win the 3rd place play-off match against Paul Azinger and Brad moved up 8 places to No.28 in the world and collected $450,000 for his weeks work. Paul Azinger claimed $360,000 of the tournament’s $5.5 million purse money and moved up 7 to No.19.

Arjun Atwal - (India) Caltex Singapore Masters Laguna National - Tampines - Singapore - 21st to 24th February, 2002 Arjun Atwal became the first Indian to win on the European Tour International Schedule after he shot a minus 14 total of 274 to win the Caltex Singapore Masters at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club. The 28-year old golfer from Calcutta moved up 117 places to No.186 and his highest career position. Richard Green from Australia moved up to World No. 115 after finishing second. Six-time Major Champion Nick Faldo continued his good start in 2002 with a 3rd place finish.
